The Full Story.
Title: “The Price of Deception”

There were two sisters, Adaugo and Nneka who lived in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria. Adaugo was the older sister, strong-willed and independent, while Nneka was the younger one, more carefree and inclined to follow her heart. Adaugo had always been the responsible one, so when she confided in her favourite hairdresser, Chidinma, about her sister’s misadventures, Chidinma couldn’t help but be drawn into the tale.

Chidinma listened with wide eyes as Adaugo recounted the story of Nneka’s lucky yet bewildering love life.

It all began when Nneka started dating a fine Yoruba gentleman named Babatunde, who worked offshore. Babatunde was known for his kind heart and generosity, as he had sponsored Nneka’s education through university and fashion school.

As Chidinma gasped in disbelief, Adaugo continued, “Can you imagine? This man proposed to her in 2021, and what did she do? She rejected the poor man’s proposal with no good reason!”

Chidinma’s jaw dropped. “Why would she do that? Did he mistreat her in any way?”

Adaugo shook her head. “No, he never laid a finger on her, nor did he abuse her verbally. And don’t even get me started on his, uh, gbola, — it was more than satisfactory, if you know what I mean.”

Chidinma burst into laughter. “Oh, Adaugo, you always find a way to make me laugh! But seriously, why would she reject such a catch?”

Adaugo sighed; her face contorted in disbelief. “She claimed she just didn’t love him anymore and wasn’t ready to settle down. Can you believe that?”

Chidinma shook her head, her fingers dancing through Adaugo’s hair. “Love can be a complicated thing, my dear. But what happened next?”

Adaugo continued, her voice filled with a mix of disbelief and amusement. “Well, that’s the crazy part. After Babatunde moved abroad to mend his broken heart, Nneka suddenly realized her mistake. She started calling him again. Later, begged for his assistance in relocating her and her new boyfriend overseas!”

Chidinma gasped. “No way! That’s audacious!”

Adaugo nodded. “The audacity! But you won’t believe what happened next. Babatunde agreed to help them, but he had a plan B. He demanded a hefty sum of money for their traveling process.”

Chidinma’s eyes widened. “He wanted revenge, didn’t he?”

Adaugo grinned mischievously. “Oh, you’re catching on, Chidinma! That’s right. Babatunde collected their hard-earned money and sent them a long message, claiming he had taken a little token from the money he spent while supporting Nneka’s education. And just like that, he blocked all their lines, including their social media, and vanished.”

Chidinma couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Karma sure has a wicked sense of humour!”

Adaugo nodded, a twinkle in her eye. “Indeed. And to add insult to injury, Nneka’s new boyfriend had to sell two plots of land and his car for their relocation process! Talk about being a victim of another person’s wahala.”

Chidinma chuckled. “Well, I guess Babatunde taught them that not everyone knows how to forgive and forget.”

Adaugo nodded, a mix of sympathy and amusement on her face. “That’s the thing, Chidinma. Hurting people without considering the consequences can lead to some pretty harsh lessons.”

Chidinma grinned. “So, did Nneka finally learn her lesson?”

Adaugo shrugged. “Who knows? Sometimes people need a big wake-up call to realize their mistakes. But I hope she’s learned that love and relationships are precious and shouldn’t be taken for granted.”

As Chidinma finished styling Adaugo’s hair, they both chuckled, imagining the look on Nneka’s face when she realized she had fallen victim to her own folly.

“You know, Adaugo, life is full of surprises,” Chidinma said, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Adaugo raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? What surprises do you have in mind?”

Chidinma grinned. “Well, what if Nneka’s ex, Babatunde, actually had a change of heart? What if he returned to Nigeria one day, successful and irresistible, ready to win her back?”

Adaugo burst into laughter. “Oh, Chidinma, you have quite the imagination! But stranger things have happened in this world.”

They exchanged mischievous smiles as Chidinma put the finishing touches on Adaugo’s hair. The story of Nneka and Babatunde’s tumultuous love affair had provided them with enough material for endless gossip sessions and bursts of laughter.

As Adaugo stepped out of the salon, her hair shining, a lightness in her step, she couldn’t help but be grateful for the colourful stories that filled her days. Life in Lagos was never dull, and it was stories like Nneka’s that added a touch of spice and humour to the chaos.

And so, the tale of Nneka’s price of deception, filled with unexpected twists and turns, continued to be whispered and chuckled about in the corners of the bustling city, a reminder to all that love, karma, and the audacity of human behaviour were forever entwined in the tapestry of life. And as for Nneka? Well, only time would tell if she would find redemption, learn from her mistakes, and discover the true meaning of love in a world where forgiveness and second chances often danced hand in hand.
